In collaboration with the Kingsport Theatre Guild, the Arts Council of Greater Kingsport presents “Charades and Improv” for the March Arts4Kids program. The club workshop will be held on Saturday, March 15 from 1-2:30 PM at the Kingsport Renaissance Center in room 302. The outreach workshop at VO Dobbins, for children who live in that community, will be held on Friday, March 14, from 4:15-5:45 PM.
Children have such a wide range of imagination and creative ideas that we, as adults, tend to put aside. This workshop will seek to foster childrenÃŒs ideas and imagination by offering opportunities for them to think creatively on their feet through words, movement, and actions. Through a few theatre games, the children will be able to participate in using their minds to create something out of objects, other than its intended mean, and quite possibly play a good ol’ fun game of charades. Children will also be challenged to think more subjectively and encouraged to practice their improvisational skills through some group participation activities. Within the theatre realm, it is important to understand and give reason as to why things happen and why a certain character makes a certain movement. With every walk across the stage, there is a purpose. With every line delivery, there is a purpose. For every emotion, there is a purpose. How do we “think on our feet”? Why do we try to make people guess things just by our gestures? What’s the point? All of these questions will be answered at the fun and engaging “Charades and Improv” workshop, offered in part with Kingsport Theatre Guild. Come on out and let’s have some fun!
Jessica Davis will lead these Arts4Kids theatre workshops. She is a graduate of Milligan College with a B.A. in Fine Arts and an emphasis in theatre. Jessica is seeking her teaching licensure and hopes to teach first grade, as well as, continue her involvement with Kingsport Theatre Guild youth series.
